adblue®.delivery direct to depot: Things to consider

With the demand for AdBlue®[1] continuing to grow as transporters update their fleets, some operators are considering adding an AdBlue tank at their depot. Here’s what to consider if you’re thinking about getting AdBlue delivered to your depot.

Diesel vehicles in Australia with a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system are required to use a diesel exhaust fluid, such as AdBlue, to help reduce exhaust emissions. We talked to Bill Verhagen from Cummins Filtration Australia and Dean Cook from AFLO Equipment to get their views on some of the things you may need to consider when having AdBlue delivered straight to your depot.

Modern engines are required to adhere to regulations around emission levels. Without a product such as AdBlue, exhaust sensors may detect higher emissions and may cause the engine control system to reduce output, meaning the engine will operate at a reduced capacity.

AdBlue is basically water and urea, but is corrosive and should be stored and handled with care and in accordance with the relevant storage, handling and safety requirements.

AFLO Equipment General Manager Dean Cook suggests using a self-bunded or twin-skin tank.

Cook suggests the best location for positioning the tank is beside the existing diesel tank, so drivers can fill up both products at the same time.

“It’s important to also keep in mind the temperature requirements, so the tank would preferably be sited under shelter or shade, away from extreme weather.”

Some storage tanks have automated monitoring systems, which may perform:

  • Fluid monitoring, to manage the usage of each driver, who will have a key card or tag allowing them to access the product.

Cummins Filtration Australia Market Segment Leader Bill Verhagen suggests asking the supplier to show they haveVDA制造商的认证

“The AdBlue you purchase should be fully compliant with the International Organization for Standardization standard ISO 22241-1, and be certified to the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) for AdBlue manufacture and quality systems,” Verhagen says.

“You could also ask if the supplier can provide a certificate of analysis for any given batch of material, to prove it is in accordance with the standard.

供应安全is another factor to consider, Verhagen says.

“Quality is important, but so is knowing that your supplier will reliably deliver product and ongoing support. For a transport fleet operator who wants to have trucks out on time every day, that’s critical.

“The depot can have an ATG (automated tank gauging) or telemetry system installed on the tank, providing real-time information to both manager and supplier, who can monitor levels and schedule top-ups as needed,” he says, adding that it’s a lot harder to have timely deliveries without that centralised system.
